interesting one that. a few lads on here have found the sr20de a good engine to start on, usuallly found in an almera gti, primera gt, or 200 sx. OR the sr20det is the turbo version in the 200sx or pulsar/sunny gti-r

im sure someone else will shed some more light here mate!

Hummm, RWD Skyline or 200sx (or older, is what i can think of at the mo.
If you realy want to drift then might be good to get car that you dont mind denting a t

Lots to pick from!

( ps i like nissan's )

READ THIS FOR DRIFT INFO...

I like the Pulsar for drag, ( but i would say that ! ) , dont cost a lot and easy to get into the 12's

Drag and drift id say either a 200sx S13 , S14, S15 or an RX-7.. bnnoth can be realy highly tunned depending on budjet and can both be purchased quite cheaply.. although youve chosen the two most oposite events to tune suspention for... if you do both your car will always be compromised for the other.. for example drift cars need setting up to break traction easilly and maintain that broken tracktion for long periods whilst still under controll... whereas drag you need it to grip like hel and controll inputs are not really needed so money saved there can go into power.. also drift cars are better with more low down tourque s that they can get the wheels spinning from low RPM's saves the driver having to shift all the time.. wheras drag needs allout power....and a narrow band can be compensated for with gear ratios...

as for engines.....

all engines can be tunend its all about cash honda engines eave the factory in a relitivly high state of tune...so gains are harder and more expencive to make.. unlike the nisans that come out abit more restricted and respond well to the basics and after both have been dopne theyll be roughly the same.. again tuning an engine is al about what the engines being used for... an F1 engine in a tracktor pull would be useless but a tracktor pull V8 in an F1 car would also be useless there powerranges ect are a mismatch....

hers a small brake down :-

Drag :-
high power lots of grip......

Drift :-
Tourque rock solid engine RWD and suspention setup soely for the purpose...

Track :-

a mix of usable midrange tourque and some power with suspention well set up.

best drift car is the S15 Chasis by far.. with a bulit proof 400BHP small turbo SR20 engine in it the chasis is able to hold hige drifts and can transvers from drift to drift better than any car out there... but there only available on imprt.. a good car to start with is a cheap S13 or S14 untill you get god enough not to bin the S15...

youll need modified sterring arms to allow for greater steering angles, a fully re-worked arch layout to alow you to go low run the required camber whilst allowing for good angles of counter steer... so full copilovers are needed aswell as other thinks like adjustable drop links ect... also the S15.. also a flyoff handbrake a 2way diff and a dog box will make the task 80% easyer but money carnt buy skill... only practise can.

as for drag.. the worlds you oister mate as its all about power levels and grip!! grip can be had with slicks so its more about choosing the chasis.. and engine to achiev your goals.. you can get into the 9's with a FWD civic if ya sepnd the cash... subarus are only just getting into the 9's Evos have been there a while aswell as the skyline's RX-7's supras ect another thing isare you gona use either car on the road?? if so somthing like a skyline or EVO can keep some drivability as the 4WD gives them the advantage.. wheras to run ultra fast other cars requires the loss of practicality.. especially the FWD setups which will never run on the road...

like i keep saying if you say this is what iv got cash wise this..... is what i want to do....... we can give you a setup to do it :)

well if ya want to be the fastest car in the UK youll need about 100-150K plus an R34 and damn good contacts in japan were talking the bosses of jun HKS stuff like that... the drag game has reached a point like in america where you need serious cash sponsorship ect to be a big player...

Drift is different like i said cash carnt buy skill hence why sumo power spent a rumourd £100,000 on there 350Z car and it got beeten by a 10K home built AE86 with an SR20 engine conversion....

If you want to do drift and do it well and have the cash buy an S13 and an S15 have the S15 built up whilst you practise the skills in the S13....

A few worrying snippets of misinformation here. The S15 comes out of the factory with 250bhp not 400bhp. It has exactly the same SR20DET in it as the S14 but with a ball bearing T28 turbo as apposed to a 'standard' T28 as found in the S14. The chasis is basically the same as the S14 also. The S15 is also equipped with a 6 speed box which is weaker than the S14 box and the s14 box is often retro-fitted to S15s to avoid gearbox failures.

Basically the S13(silvia not RS13),S14 and S15 are basically equal out of the factory for drift capabilities.

And if you want an engine that is easy to yield high power out of yet use on a daily basis, try an RB26DETT (Skyline GTR engine) or a 2JZ-GTE (Supra TT engine) Both can be tuned to 500bhp and beyond on stock bottom ends.

The SR20DET is a fantastic engine though that responds well to bolt on mods and 280bhp is easily attainable. Serious engine work is required tho to go above the 350bhp marker.
