Taking on the camera vans

A couple of weeks ago there was an article in our local paper about parking on grass verges saying they were going to start prosecuting people for it and removing vehicles that were left unattended/parked on verges. Fair enough if thats what they want to do then fine, but make it a blanket rule to cover all vehicles with no exclusions. So after an incident today I phoned the local council asking where they draw the line and if all vehicles were included. I was told yes it does include all vehicles but obviously this will not be enforced on emergency vehicles. So after spotting a mobile money bank on a grass verge today, I stopped, took photos, then went to question the operator who refused to comment when I told him he was breaking the law by being on the grass verge, he got a little pissed off with me and told me to get lost. So I walked a little distance up the road and started making people aware of the camera van by waving my arms and pointing to him and people started slowing down, after a couple of minutes of this he came out of his van and threatened me with calling the police and having me arrested. I asked what for and he informed me it is against the law for me to stand there warning people about his van, my reply was why, you have signs warning people that it is a speed camera area so why cant I assist them in warning people and that I was only doing a public duty. He had a bit of another rant at me, then I asked him if he was aware that it is also illegal to leave a vehicle unsecured on the side of the road, especially when he is illegaly parked. He then got his phone out to call for assistance.......................my time for a quick exit. Got home ....phoned the local paper who did the article and they asked me to e mail them the photos, apparently they are going to run the article on Sunday. If the van was indeed parked illegaly was the information they collected against the speeding motorists illegaly gathered. If nothing else all the time I had his attention both inside and outside of the van he must have missed a few speeding cars. So at least I saved someone a few quid :P :P :P :P
Maybe we should all start doing it in all areas

Good on you Bryan, I remember reading a story about some aussie lads who distracted the operator of one such vehicle while some others 'borrowed' the licence plates. They then fixed them to their car and proceeded to speed through the trap several times. The automated prosecution machine ended up fining itself!

What a stupid sig.
