Recent sad news :( was created by Luize
well last thurs morning i went outside to pop Zoey in the car ready to shoot to nursery and saw my passenger door open. i thought \"i didnt leave that open, did i?\" then penny dropped.
walked to drivers side and saw 2 smashed windows, it had been broken into, caused ALOT of damage and theft.
i took zoey to nursery and phoned police to come around. they were really helpfull but as you would expect nothing came of finger printing or house to house calls. he did mention that at the moment there is alot of incidents of car theft from getting keys through the letterbox, then i twigged......... my keys were on the floor by the door, they were put on the side about 2 meters from the door (habit)
there was also a bambo cane left in the car, they had tried to steel it with the keys but dropped them so broke in, had a go at the ignition but then just started stripping it and running.
assessor through my work and the insurance company estimated 5K, as my drivers leather seat is cut and damaged from the glass then it needs retrimming but if they cannot match it then the other seat and door cards will need trimming to match which will bump up the cost more.

i have agreed value of 7K, what do u think is going to happen?

bloody hell luize, thats a bit shit, gutted for ya. like jim said, at 5k to reapir and an agreed value of 7k, it will probably be a write off. it might be worth letting them write it off and keep your fingers crossed you can buy it back. i dunno. just something to think about.

either way, its trouble you dont need. i know you love that car.

hope you get somethin sorted soon, keep us posted.

Tom.

:( .........Very sorry to hear about this appalling incident........hope these people get what they desereve..!!!
Dont know if this is true or not but i was once told that you can insist on your car being repaired.....and that insurance company's hope people take their word that a car should be \"written off\"........not sure that this is correct but it may be worth checking out....

Just checked out what i was told in my previous post..........if it states in the terms and conditions that the company can chose to write it off then you may have to agree to that.
You may still be able to come to a deal with them regarding buying it back.......if you agreed to accept a lesser amount for repairs they may agree to a deal...who knows...
Another way would be to try to cancel your claim, take the car off the road and repir it over a period of time ,but this would be expensive and time consuming and defeats the object of insurance as your pocket will suffer.........
I have heard of plenty of people buying there cars back.........Tom bought his V35 back after an old lady totaled it..........may be worthwhile sendindg him a PM........

sorry to hear this. thieving B######ds!!! i would seriously flip if anything happened to my car. some yobs kicked the wing mirrors off my old car too. and they never get caught!!
hope something works out for you tho.

yes andy u can haggle with insurance companys... a few years back my grandad had an triumph acclaim (LOL) and someone ran into the side on him... it need a new wing and door... it was a A reg 1984 i think... so they wanted to write it off straight away. but my grandad pleaded that he was old and didnt want another car, so they agreed that if he could sort out some 2nd hand parts for a reasonable price they would pay to fix it. and they did :D

s***. I agree with the jealousy thing. My car was broken into in may and my stereo nicked. It was parked in what was supposed to be a secure car park. Police say there was nothing on CCTV. They got \" good finger prints but ive heard nothink. Tipical. Hope u get somethink sorted. My husbands mom brought her car back off insurers after a lorry had reversed into. sounds like u love your car. Sorry to hear about it. :(

Like Andy says i bought mine back no problem, then only thing was when i haggled and got another £1500 they also put the buy back value of the car up £500 the car so i only got an extra £1000.
I will stick my neck out here as im pretty sure you can buy your car back if they give it a certain grade of write off (can't remember the letters) the ones they wont let you buy back are the ones that have been deemed dangerous to repair ie twisted, large chassis damage etc but it sounds like yours would be fine to repair so i can't see how they can not sell it back to you. Best thing would be to phone the insurance ombidsman who are pretty helpful.
