Hey i just bought a black Starlet SR, it's completely original. picking it up friday. I'm new to all this but i do plan on adding a few things to it, such as adding turbo, an intercooler and maybe some low comp pistons. I'd appreciate any advice.

bit more to turbowing a starlet that just that mate, there are a few members on here that have owned both N/A and turbo starlets. easiest way is to just swap the engine ECU and gear box over in one hit will need the engine loom too. its alot of work to turbo an N/A more than people first think.

welcome to the club too

Hi mate.....welcome to Jap-n-crazy.......Good choice of car......I gree with Jim on this one,it is very complicated to Turbo an N/A Starlet,it's much easier to do a complete swap,or buy a Turbo Starlet or Glanza to start with.....it can be done but it can be awkward and expensive....:)

Welcome to the club!

I will be keeping my black Starlet SR as standard as much as I can. I have had a new exhaust fitted that replicates the original TTE back box. I have added a strut brace as you can see from my pictures and I will be spraying some of the engine parts to match the strut brace. I will also be spraying the alloys and tinting the back windows only. I have also just recently purchased a K&N air filter which should be arriving shortly. I won't bother lowering the car as it is already quite low as standard. As you can see from the pictures I have posted that I have also removed the castrol stickers as these were looking quite tired and faded. I will be adding some more pictures soon of my new exhaust and shiney bits in the engine.

I have to agree with Mr G and my boyfriend, Jim, that there is quite a lot of work involved in adding a turbo to a N/A Starlet. To be honest, I don't know alot about cars and what I do know I have learnt from my boyfriend but, it will be quite tricky installing a turbo. Good luck anyway with the mods. You will have to start a build thread and keep us posted with your progress on the car.

Here are a few new pictures of my car showing my new exhaust that Phil fitted for me and wheels that Jim has very kindly let me have :) I will also be spraying my speedline wheels at some point when I decide on a colour. My new K&N air filter should also be arriving soon and as soon as it does fitting that will be my next task! :)

just recieved an email from toyota in rotherham ref replacment decals for the sr, they cost 56.99 inc vat. in case anyone wanted to know. I'm not sure if i'm going to buy any yet as 56.99 is pretty steep.

exhaust sounds sweet (its louder than mine lol )

i know everyone raves about the SR speedline wheels but i must say it drives so much better with the Glanza wheels on, much lighter on its feet and picks up better

Yeah, it is louder than yours Jim! He he! The good thing is though, even though it is louder than Jim's, it isn't too loud and doesn't make any one in the close vicinity deaf. Lol!

Again, I must agree with Jim, it is much lighter on it's feet and it picks up one hell of alot better than when the Speedlines were on. I think they look nicer than the Speedlines too! :) It is a pleasure to drive! :)

Yeah, I can fully understand what you're saying as it is nice to keep a car looking the way it looked when it was sent out from the manufactures. It is also nice to preserve the original look as that way the car keeps its originality. My honest opinion is that I don't mind whether it has the Speedlines and graphics on or not. I will be having the Speedlines restored though at some point and I will be using those for summer and the glanza wheels for winter if Jim will let me. Lol! The thing that puts me off the graphics is the price and how long will it be till they fade in colour.
