De-Cat

hi, advise required -

as some of you know i had my car de-cat'ed the other day but i do have a question.

i know this is proberbly a really stupid question but has any noticed if their car smokes more after they had there cat removed? cause mine was smokin like the Proverbial Bast**d when i got home, i don't mean just idleing, but i put it in reverse to get on my driveway and more smoke than usual. i'm 99% sure it's nothing serious as it is just started after i had the cat removed, but just wanted to check with you guys.

you will prob nitice a bit more cause the cat is no longer there to take the harmful gases out the exhaust system, i believe the gases will also exit the car hotter with the cat removed and with it been rather cold last night it may of just been heat vapour you were seeing fella.

What colour is the smoke?
White is usually water/condensation burning off
Bluey/Grey is usually oil burning off

Decatting and the subsequent loss in back pressure can sometimes show up tired valve stem seals in older engines which will smoke a bit as the cat is no longer there to 'catch' the traces of oil that seep past the seals.

You'll get a lot more "steam" from a stainless steel exhaust system.

And with the de-cat it more free to exit the pipes

mine throws loads out mate, and i only have a backbox, i wouldn't worry about it, next time your sat behind me in traffic just have a look see how much steam comes out of my exhaust, you could steam vegetables with it

the smoke is defernatly white, i did take it to phils on monday, he had a look and said there's nothing to worry about, plus it has settled down i bit now.

As this thread has a smoke theme i was wondering why the smoke out my exhaust was white. what happened was the seal on number 4 spark plug in the rocker cover wasnt sealing well so oil was getting past the seal and down into the spark plug chamber/tube covering the spark plug in oil, i drained as much as possible with the straw method like you check your washer bottle water level but obviously some oil wasnt able to be removed, so when i took the plug out to clean the oil off it, the oil that was in the bottom went into the combustion chamber, cleaned it all up, put it back together turned the engine on and had a nice plume of white smoke from my exhaust.

My question, it was oil, why was it white smoke?
