Filler/fibreglass for rear arches!!

Right then guys, as said in my other thread, I need to sort the rear arches on the 5. Cutting them out and welding new in is not really an option due to my lack of skill/knowledge and lack of funds!! Basically I'm planning on grinding the rust out and using filler or fibreglass to build them back up and reshape them.

I've never done this before so any advice, tips and ideas will be gratefully appreciated!!

cheers!

K the Bodgin way. AND I TIMED OUT THE FIRST TIME I WROTE IT AHHHHHHHHH LOL

Tools yo: Grinder
Hammer
Flatting block
Various grades of flatting paper 80-800 +/- (try and stay away from wet)
Fiberglass, some come with matting and plastic film, some dont. ( if you reckon holes are going to be bigger than a couple of centimeters get the matting)
Bodyfiller
Spreader card
Hot air gun
Brushable sealer
Sprayble sealer/wax oyl
Masking tape
and PPE ofcoarse
Best way:

Grind that shit out, hopefully you'll only have small holes, tap it with a hammer not to hard just so its a slight dent. Fill with only fiberglass, 50-1hardener ratio. (fiberglass is less porous than body filler so will last longer but it will be back with time)

For bigger holes, tap area around the hole about a few cm away from the edges harder causing it be quite a low spot. Cut matting and plastic film a couple cm bigger than tapped area. tape up one side of the film so you can tape this to the body work after the next step, mix fiberglass, spread it on film, place matting on top and push it in to the filler slightly. Tape it to the body work, spread the edges. If its a mahoosive hole and the filler in sagging use ruler to support it and get the hot air gun on the go.

Fiberglass is a bitch to flat down by hand, you could use the grinder being v careful. the fiberglass need to bejust shy of the bodylines. ( if it has high spots to the liner you'll struggle with shapes when it comes to the body filler.)

Skim over with body filler, 50-1hardener

Ill write the rest tomoz
